Hello everyone! I’m Lisette Calderon, and I’m thrilled to be in my final year of grad school, majoring in mass communication at Texas State University. I have a bachelor’s degree in electronic media from Texas State, and I’ve been working in the tech field since 2015. While my expertise lies in analysis, my true passion is in media, which has led me to exciting opportunities and adventures.

Im originally from the West Texas town of El Paso and moved to Austin in 2011 to chase my dreams. Austin’s eclectic music scene inspired me, and I’ve been a proud South by Southwest attendee for over a decade. My goal was to blend my love for music with a fulfilling career. I had the incredible chance to lead a team of 74 in music research for a major social media company. Though I faced a layoff, it only fueled my determination to keep pushing forward.

Graduate school has been a whirlwind, especially getting to experience SXSW from behind the scenes as part of the event’s social media content team – twice! These experiences were beyond what I ever imagined, teaching me resiliency and the importance of seizing new opportunities. When I am not grinding away at school and work, I explore the many activities Austin has to offer with my husband and three children.

As a child, I was mesmerized by the idea of traveling the world, eagerly watching Anthony Bourdain explore diverse cultures, traditions, and, most importantly, cuisines. Now, I’m thrilled to embark on my own adventure by studying abroad in Japan.

I can’t wait to immerse myself in Japan’s rich culture, savor its exquisite cuisine, and bring back delicious recipes to share with my loved ones. This journey is not just about academics but also about experiencing life from a new perspective and adding a new chapter to my story.
