My name is Meredith and I am a mass communication and public relations major at Texas State. Studying abroad is something I’ve always thought about doing, but I never committed to the application process until this year, and I’m so glad I did. Initially I applied for a different program but was later directed to Dr. Martinez’s Japan program where I found myself wondering why I never looked into it before. The more I learned about the program, the more intrigued I became. Being an avid Conde Nast Traveler reader and Vogue magazine collector, curriculums for classes on travel journalism and feature writing felt well within my comfort zone.
There’s so much to be excited about for this trip but I’m really just happy to be able to do things I already love; traveling and sharing my experiences, and simultaneously acquire college credit for it (totally beats a traditional classroom setting). My long-term goals include becoming a public relations representative for a high-end fashion brand and/or working for pretty much any Conde Nast publication. Given that, my focus in Japan will be primarily on the fashion and art scenes. These are things I’ve only read about and seen pictures and videos of before so I’m eager to experience them firsthand and collect an abundance of content for my Instagram (@merealexandra)… and assignments. 😉
