Hey there! My name is Miya Coleman, and I’m from Austin. I’m currently attending Texas State University with a major in journalism and a minor in philosophy. I will be joining the School of Journalism and Mass Communication Japan 2025 trip with Professors Gilbert D. Martinez and Jon Zmikly. I plan to start a career in journalism and pursue a law degree in the future.
I usually spend my time tinkering with home-built computer systems, playing video games and reading or watching sci-fi/fantasy!
This trip marks my second time in Japan, and I will be taking extra time at the end of my stay to see my extended family! As of this summer, it will be 10 years since I last visited them in Japan.
As exciting as taking the shinkansen, attending a Japanese baseball game or touring a castle will be, I am most looking forward to making connections. Connecting with my peers, professors, local groups at our visits and family is going to be a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. I am incredibly excited to have the privilege of going on this education abroad trip!
I’m super excited to put my writing and photography skills to the test during my time in Japan! I hope the experiences I have on this trip will prepare me for the future and round out my educational experience!
