My name is Valeria, and I am an advertising sophomore at Texas State with a minor in mass communication. I am from Keller, Texas, and want to pursue a career with something involving creative advertising and campaigns. When I first got into TXST, one of the main academic goals that I had in mind was to study abroad. When I found out that there was an abroad program going to Japan, I knew that was an opportunity I couldn’t miss.
While I do have some travel experience both in and out of the country, Japan may be the furthest I will ever travel from home. Fun fact: this will be my first time traveling by myself. While it is a little jarring to think about, I think this experience will help me grow as a person and help me become a more well-rounded individual.
What I’m most excited about for this experience is to learn more about the advertising world in Japan and the impact that it has on society and culture. Aside from advertising, I am really excited to learn more about music and fashion in Japan, as well as explore more about the different subcultures – like how music and fashion go hand in hand with personal identity.
