Hey, Bobcats! My name is Eric Gonzalez, and I’m really excited about being a part of the SJMC Japan program. I can’t wait to be immersed in the culture, as well as getting to learn more about the country. I’m excited to explore the music scene in Kyoto as well. I’m originally from California, but I’ve been in the area for about eight years now. I am currently a junior majoring in electronic media. I’m also a singer/songwriter, and I have a bit of experience with media, as I do a lot of promotional videos for my music. The main goal I have after college would be to own my own record label and be able to help out artists who might need an extra push.
I am currently working towards that goal by performing with my group around the Austin and San Antonio areas and distributing original music to major streaming platforms. We have gotten the opportunity to perform at different music festivals including Fiesta San Antonio and SXSW, and I have directed a few videos for the group while there. I feel like these are steps in the right direction, and I’m excited for the ways that studying abroad will benefit me in the future.
